Recently, a batch of customized lead-shielded containers and matching portable transport cases was successfully shipped from our production base to São Paulo, Brazil. They will be delivered to a local medical institution specializing in nuclear medicine diagnosis and treatment for the safe storage and short-distance transport of radiopharmaceuticals, further improving its nuclear medical protection system. This is another important case of our nuclear medical protection equipment being implemented in the South American market.
In-depth research and a precise understanding of the core needs of Brazilian clients
In the initial stages of the collaboration, our foreign trade and technical teams worked together to gain a comprehensive understanding of the client’s background and core needs through multiple rounds of email and video communication. This Brazilian client is a well-known comprehensive medical institution in the São Paulo region. Its nuclear medicine department primarily conducts radiological diagnosis and treatment for oncology and cardiovascular diseases, and frequently uses radionuclides such as iodine-131 and technetium-99m. Their core needs focused on the safe storage of radiopharmaceuticals and short-distance intra- and inter-hospital transport.
We identified the client’s potential pain points: existing protective equipment lacked sufficient shielding effectiveness to meet the protection requirements for high-activity radionuclides; the transport containers were not portable, hindering rapid transport by medical personnel; and the equipment did not comply with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) SSR-6 standard and relevant Brazilian ANVISA (National Health Surveillance Agency) regulations, posing compliance risks.
Customized solutions to precisely address customer pain points
To address customer needs and pain points, our technical team assembled a dedicated group, leveraging years of expertise in nuclear medicine protection to develop a comprehensive, customized solution. From product design and material selection to production and testing, every step was tailored to the customer’s specific application scenarios.
In the Lead-Lined Container design, we used a high-purity lead alloy (lead content ≥99.99%) to form the core shielding layer. Based on the radiation intensities of the customer’s commonly used nuclides, we precisely calculated the shielding thickness to ensure the radiation dose rate on the outer surface of the container remains below 2 μSv/h, meeting IAEA SSR-6 standards. The container body is encased in a double-layered stainless steel shell, passivated and coated with a ceramic layer to enhance its resistance to humidity and heat, and corrosion, making it suitable for the tropical climate of Brazil. It also features a fully enclosed sealing cap and silicone sealing ring to eliminate the risk of radioactive material release.
The Portable Transport Case uses lightweight, high-strength plastic material, balancing portability and structural strength. The bottom of the case features a shock-absorbing base, and the side walls are filled with polymer cushioning material, effectively absorbing vibrations and impacts during transport and preventing damage to the internal lead shielding container.
In addition, in response to the complex customs clearance process in Brazil, we prepared a complete set of product compliance documents in advance, including product testing reports, ISO 13485 certification, CE certification, certificate of origin, etc., and assigned a dedicated person to liaise with the client to assist in completing the customs clearance procedures and ensure the smooth arrival of the goods.
High customer satisfaction testifies to product strength and service quality
During the product manufacturing process, we regularly sent production progress reports to the client, allowing them to stay informed about the production status. After production was completed, the entire product testing process was conducted, including radiation shielding performance testing, sealing testing, and impact resistance testing. All test indicators far exceeded the client’s expectations.
Upon receiving the product, the client’s representative stated, “Your product perfectly meets our needs in terms of shielding performance, sealing, and portability, even exceeding our expectations. The customized design, in particular, precisely addressed our pain points. Furthermore, your service was extremely professional and attentive. From needs assessment to production testing, every step was meticulously considered, demonstrating your sincerity and capability. We look forward to long-term cooperation.” Currently, both parties have reached a long-term cooperation agreement. Going forward, we will continue to provide customized nuclear medicine protective equipment and services based on the client’s business expansion needs, helping them expand their nuclear medicine business.
Conclusion and Reflections
With the continuous development of global nuclear medicine technology, countries are increasingly demanding higher standards for the safety and compliance of radioactive material storage and transportation. This is particularly true in South American countries like Brazil, where the nuclear medicine industry is experiencing rapid growth, leading to a sustained increase in demand for high-quality nuclear medicine protective equipment. However, limited local production capacity and heavy reliance on imports present a significant market opportunity for us.
In the future, we will continue to deepen our expertise in the field of nuclear medicine protection, continuously increase R&D investment, improve the shielding performance and portability of our products, and refine our customized service system to meet the individual needs of different overseas clients. We aim to provide safe, reliable, and compliant nuclear medicine protection solutions to more overseas medical institutions, contributing to the safe and healthy development of the global nuclear medicine industry.
